And Gone...

The shop is all cleared/cleaned out and the keys returned to the landlord on Tuesday. The end of an iteration of Nostalgie. The good news is my first Sunday open at Mongers Market I did 2 very strong months worth of business in 6 hours! Though I loved my space on Main Street and thought the shop looked like my ideal of a vintage clothing store, one I would have loved to shop in, I had begun to doubt myself in Deep River due to the slowness of sales and the sense of ennui that I detected in many of my customers. So, back to my selling roots as part of a cooperative but in a slightly less polished surround.

Come find me in Mongers Market in Bridgeport, open every Sunday except major holidays. It's well worth the trip.

Last (dismantling) Weekend April 7-8th

This coming Friday and Saturday Nostalgie in Deep River will be open but we will begin the final shop dismantling process while open, beginning in the back area. The remaining clothing, (20 linear feet) hats (most of my hat inventory) shoes and linens in the cherry cabinet will be the last things to go on Saturday. The two larger chandeliers and the area rugs are for sale on Craigslist and will remain until after closing.

Early Out

After looking at my traffic and sales data for the past month and doing a cost benefit of closing early versus staying open while my stock disappears to Bridgeport, I have decided to close the shop earlier than planned moving up the >>last open date<<< to Saturday April 8th.

After April 2, my credit card processor will no longer function, so cash sales only after this coming weekend. My chandeliers are listed on Craigslist right now as Mongers Market does not accept additional lighting without an alternate power source so the larger lighting will be sold either here in Deep River or at Mongers Market.

One, maybe 2 more blog posts and I will be closing this blog for my new chapter: https://nostalgiect.blogspot.com/

Thanks for checking in.

Things are slowly filtering out...

...so if there is anything that you've had your eye on, now is the time. About half my hats are already gone, the newer stocked hats remain. The hanging scarves, small clutch bags and gloves have been moved. The rolling cart full of linens is gone...

I'm also selling my chandeliers, the wire dressing room chair, the mid century iron "spiral stair" display and a few other shop fixtures that won't easily fit in Mongers Market.

The last regular sale date is Saturday April 2. After that date my credit card processor will no longer function and the shop will be stripped down for a final closing of April 22. Cash sales only after April 2. Only one month left.

When One Door Closes...

...another one opens.

I am taking a largish space in the Mongers Market in Bridgeport in April that will probably running simultaneously with the Deep River shop for a week/two. For those of you that haven't visited, Mongers Market is a weekly Sundays only venue event housed in a huge warehouse filled with all things vintage, architectural salvage, industrial/steampunk with a few higher end import dealers.

My shop will still be called Nostalgie but it will assume a more industrial form, similar to my previous Kansas City shop. The same high quality of merchandise will be present but the presentation will definitely be different. I'm still working to find CC/payment processing without huge financial investment that hopefully will integrate with my present POS 8 y/o iPad tablet but the venue has an ATM. It's not ideal but rather a work in progress.

Because of this turn of events I will be moving all of my spring/summer inventory to Bridgeport and my final inventory in Deep River will be the 3-4 season stock remaining as I remove the heavier, winter, holiday items back to seasonal storage. The shop will be pared down considerably in March in anticipation of finally closing.

I appreciate your patronage over the past 4 years. I realize that this move may put me out of reach for some, if not many of my present customers and I regret that probability.

For the adventurous, Mongers Market is located on the east side of Bridgeport conveniently off of I-95, open Sundays 10-4. There is a $3 per person entry fee that will be refunded with a $25 or more purchase from my shop.

I will also have the ability to make appointments on Tuesdays and Wednesdays (work days) with no cover charge.

Again thanks and gratitude to all of my customers.

Nostalgie in Deep River

Time is MUCH more limited.

 Good morning,

A week ago I got notice from my credit card/payment processor that they were discontinuing my shop's processing services on April 3 unless I upgraded to their much more expensive, all encompassing point of sale system. I needed to either upgrade, scramble to set up basic processing with another company or ask to be let out of my last few months of my lease as I had a springtime exit clause.

So as of early-mid April Nostalgie will close its Deep River doors permanently. It has become clear that without something extraordinary happening I won't be able to liquidate my inventory, not even close actually, even if I closed in July, so I'm going to have to figure out what I'm going to do with that in the future. Perhaps a west coast sales trip or several.

I will be selling some of my fixtures in April before I close. I'll carry on with my inventory sale, some items may be getting deeper discounts and I will close mid/late April, cash sales only due to no processing ability after April 1. This is not how I expected to finish this out but PayPal made the call for me, my landlord, good man was able to help me make this work.

Thanks for your patronage.

Time is Limited

Reminder: Only 20-22 (logistics depending) weekends left before the shop closes permanently. Spring stock will be put out in March. Coats/heavier outerwear will leave the shop permanently in late February or the first few days in March.
